“The Poppy Field” by Margaret Lock

The farmer ploughed his field of green, but little did he realise

That a poppy in the corner stood all alone and unseen

The field was to become A place of eternal rest

Where so many had been taken the youngest and the best

Of all of those who went to war didn’t really know what for

An enemy of King and Queen Who knows what

Their lives might have been

This field now blest has many Graves and crosses too

They maybe friends or even Family of some of you

A lone soldier stood his bugle in his hand

In a field full of poppies in a faraway land

His thoughts turned to his mates He’d lost so long ago

And to his lips he put his bugle and he began to blow

The last post echoed across the field He felt strong,

yet he also felt so weak

And a lone tear rolled gently down his cheek

The little poppy raised his head and to the father cried

Do not let us forget Why so many died

Street Pastors are operating in the Amesbury area now and need volunteers and prayer support.
